We don't store sensitive data in any cookie that comes from Harpers.org.
We don't store your password in plain text. We encrypt it.
We don't store your credit card number. All credit cards are processed by our friends at CDS Fulfillment, who have reliably, and for
many years, managed millions of subscriptions for millions of people.
We don't sell your information to anyone just because you're a web user, and we will never sell your email address without your permission.
Like most other magazines, however, we sometimes sell portions of our (snail) mailing list to other magazines. We don't do
much of it, and we don't let just anyone use our list. But if you want out, just send an email to optout@harpers.org. Make sure to include your account number (it's on your mailing label and starts with the letters PRS), the name under which
you subscribed, and your full mailing address.
We do . . .
We do keep our eye on the number of sessions you're using at once, in order to keep people from abusing our system or giving away their account information. This means
that if you and all the other monks in the monastery want to read Harper's online using one account, we'll be forced to cut
you off. Access to the Harper's Archive is a free service to our subscribers, and we reserve the right to revoke that service.
We do use Google Analytics to track our web traffic, and we use advertising management software that remembers who you are between
visits. But that information isn't connected to your Harper's Magazine account.
We hope we've found a compromise between securing your information, making the site simple to use, and serving our advertisers.
Of course, securing your information is our first priority.
We're glad to hear any comments or suggestions regarding this privacy statement. Just send email to ericblair@harpers.org.
