From an October call to a morning show on WKSC 103.5 FM in Chicago. The caller, who identified himself as “Dee,” was apprehended in February, four months after the police traced the call to his cell phone. TCF is a regional bank with a branch in South Chicago Heights.
DEE: Hello?
DJ: Hello Dee, good morning. So, your friends robbed a TCF bank?
DEE: That's right, the black man's bank. We knew the girl that worked in the bank, so we set everything up, we planned it out, turned my house into the bank, actually, and acted it out for, like, several weeks—oh, my bad, I said “we,” I mean “they,” um, so—
DJ: Really? Wow! That's crazy!
DEE: So, the day of it, we was like real nervous, it almost didn't happen, but uh, whatever, everything went down, we hopped in the car, and went on a shopping spree.
DJ: So it worked?
DEE: Oh, it worked perfectly. Everybody got eighteen grand.
DJ: Wow! Holy cow! You're kidding me!
DEE: I'm dead serious. Louis Vuitton this, glasses that. Everything, man.
DJ: You're kidding. So, how did you stake it out?
DEE: Well, the girl inside, she was the main key. If you want to rob a bank, you need somebody on the inside.
DJ: So you got to get one of your posse to join the bank and get a job there.
DEE: Right, exactly, that's how I got it done. She did it perfectly, she cried, she played everything off. We pulled up there like seven in the morning—nobody's in there except for some old people. Okay, so she signaled to my guys to go behind her, and they grabbed 'em and tied 'em up, got her keys, brought her to the back, put all the money in the bag . . .
DJ: Ooo, right, yeah. Uh-huh?
DEE: So, everything was cool, my guy walked out with the bags, we hopped in the car and rolled off!
DJ: That's incredible!
DEE: Uh, I mean not we, them, them, them.
DJ: So you spent all the money?
DEE: Oh, yeah, it got spent real quick.
DJ: Did you guys have a plan B?
DEE: Yeah. Run like hell.
